Prefab Barns vs. Traditional Barns

A barn is a big investment with an important purpose, providing additional storage and space for housing your animals. When deciding between prefab barns vs. traditional barns, there are similar aspects to consider during the process:

  • Price Value
  • Structural Integrity
  • Efficient Building/Installation Process
  • Customizable Features & Designs
  • Quality Materials

Both types of barns come in a variety of styles, shapes, and sizes so it is important to know how you will be using your barn and what your budget is before beginning the process.

In this blog, we’re going to discuss the differences between prefab barns and traditional framed barns to help you decide which option is best for you and your team!

What’s the Difference Between Prefab Barns and Traditional Framed Barns?

From the outside, a prefab barn and a framed barn have a lot in common. When you choose the right barn builder (like Glick Woodworks!), you can trust that both barn types are built to last. So, what’s the difference? The main difference between prefab barns and traditional framed barns is the construction process.

Prefab barns are designed and assembled in a factory, then delivered to the job site. Because all the work is done in a climate-controlled facility, the risk for faulty construction is lower. There are also time and cost benefits to this process because the building can be completed in a shorter amount of time than a traditional barn.

A traditional framed barn is built on site. The frame is put together piece by piece on your property. Because the barn is being built from scratch on your land, this process takes longer because of labor as well as the natural obstacles builders may face such as topography, weather, etc.

Both prefab barns and traditional framed barns have their own set of pros and cons, but ultimately the decision comes down to your needs and budget. If you’re looking for a quicker, more efficient construction process, a prefab barn is the way to go. If you’re looking for a larger structure, a traditional framed barn may be the better option.

Advantages of a Prefab Barn

There are many reasons to choose a prefab barn from Glick Woodworks over a traditional barn.

Below are a few advantages of modular barns:

  • Cost – Prefab barns are typically more affordable than traditional barns without sacrificing quality. This is because the materials and labor required to build them are much less expensive when pre-designed and assembled in a factory.
  • Time – It takes much less time to construct a prefab barn than it does to build a traditional barn. Building a traditional barn on-site can take weeks or even months to complete. Since the components of a prefabricated barn are already assembled before being delivered to the construction site, the building process can take as little as one day!
  • Quality – Prefab barns are made with the same high-quality materials as a traditional barn. Plus, most of the construction is completed in a temperature-controlled environment to minimize exposure to the elements prior to delivery. This results in a stronger, more durable structure.
  • Customization – Because prefab barns are built to order, they can be customized to match the specific style of the customer. This allows for a completely unique structure that perfectly fits the customer’s needs.

This is one stop shop. They came in and removed my 33 yr old (in (bad shape) shed, leveled out the pad location, bought in stone of at least 4 inches, outlined the new pad with 4x4's and bought in my new shed which was perfectly level. All of this in less than 7 hours. Very happy with the whole process!!!

I had my 12x24 Victorian shed installed yesterday. I can't say enough good words of the great customer service received by from Dave, Dan & the installers Amos, Jeff & Galen!Good quality craftmanship & price not bad either for the type of shed. They accommodated me by preparing the foundation & installing the shed all in one day because bad weather is expected today! Thank you men for a job well done! I definitely would highly recommend Glick Woodworks for anyone in the market for a shed!
